Requirements
for joining the
Assumption B.V.M. Province
If you haven’t already done so, please read the brief
article on discerning a calling to religious life
by Martin Pable, OFM Cap. The article presents some good insights
into the process
of discernment towards religious life and its stress on fraternal
living.
Living life within a religious fraternity takes a certain
type of individual who is willing to center on
Christ and others
and not on self. The vows of poverty, chastity and obedience
allow to serve God's people fully.
If you are convinced God is calling you to religious life,
and you have an attraction to fraternal life as a Franciscan,
then
here is what we are looking for in an individual.
The most important ingredient you must have is the
desire to serve Jesus Christ in an unselfish, committed way
with men
who
desire to live the Gospel life in the Franciscan tradition.
•A man between the ages of 21 and 40 years of age.
•You must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with
the Church.
•You must not have any outstanding debts or any financial
obligations to others, such as child support.
•You must be in good physical and mental health. A doctor's
report is required for verification.
•You must be able to live a celibate lifestyle.
•You must have flexibility and good temperament in order to
live with others in fraternity.
For those who are presently in college and thinking of joining
our province of Franciscans, taking some basic theology and
philosophy courses is extremely beneficial, especially if
you are considering
ordination. If you have further questions regarding our application
process, you can contact our vocation office, toll free,
